Moxy Copenhagen is awarded the prestigious sustainability certificate LEED Platinum

May 25th, 2021

The LEED certificate is an achievement in better, more sustainable building. Moxy Copenhagen Sydhavnen has now been awarded the highest possible LEED certificate; only the second hotel in Denmark to be recognized by this green building program.

Buildings have a substantial impact on the environment. They are responsible for an enormous amount of global energy use, resource consumption and greenhouse gas emissions and have a significant impact on our personal health and well-being. Green buildings allow us to live and work more sustainably in ways you can experience – in your health, the air you breath, the water you drink. They offer us a better quality of life, while also lowering global carbon emissions, and reducing electricity and water bills.

Moxy Copenhagen Sydhavnen has now been recognized by LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, as the U.S. Green Building Council has certified the hotel to the Platinum level, the highest possible achievement. Certification is proof that Moxy Copenhagen Sydhavnen is going above and beyond to ensure the space is constructed and operated to the highest level of sustainability. The owner and developer of Moxy Copenhagen Sydhavnen, Vastint Hospitality, certifies all its new buildings through LEED:

The principle of ensuring that new buildings have a certain environmental standard has been adhered to within Vastint for many years. We set this standard for ourselves as we want to develop properties in a sustainable manner while ensuring we do not burden the cities that we build in. Today, we seek LEED Gold, or higher, for all future Moxy hotel projects,” says Andrew Lee van Rootzelaar, Senior Property Manager at Vastint Hospitality.

The sustainability value is largely shared by most in the Nordics, including the operator of Moxy Copenhagen Sydhavnen, the Danish white label management company, Core Hospitality. Recognizing the efforts of the owner, Core Hospitality is committed to reducing its environmental impact further by operating on 100% renewable energy and optimizing building processes and operative procedures.

Buildings use resources, generate waste and are costly to maintain and operate. We are pleased that Vastint made the effort to build a sustainable building as it allows us to more easily operate the hotel sustainably,” explains Per Denker Sørensen, CEO of Core Hospitality. “The LEED certificate, in general, is a strong indication that Moxy Hotels is among the leading sustainable hotel choices in Copenhagen. The Platinum level, specifically, is an incredible feat that highlights the tremendous sustainable considerations made when building the hotel.”

About LEED
LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is an internationally recognized green building rating system that is developed by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. LEED certification provides independent verification of a building’s green features, allowing for the design, construction, operations, and maintenance of resource-efficient, high-performing, healthy, cost-effective buildings. LEED is the triple bottom line in action, benefiting people, planet, and profit.
