BREEAM certification awarded to Moxy Tromsø
October 29th, 2024
The BREEAM award is a prestigious certificate in sustainable building processes, which has now been fully awarded to Moxy Tromsø, scoring the third highest status available: BREEAM Very Good.
BREEAM was the first sustainable building rating system in the world, certifying that buildings are designed and constructed with the environment in mind. Located near Tromsø Airport, the building that is occupied by Moxy Tromsø has now been recognized by this green building program. The hotel has achieved the status of Very Good in the BREEAM program, the third highest rating possible. Moxy Tromsø is the first hotel in Northern Norway to achieve a BREEAM new build certification.
Among the sustainability initiatives that made it possible to achieve the certification are: use of technical installations with EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations), space heat and hot water supplied from district heating to minimize NOx emissions, and the procurement of RECs ensuring 100% renewable energy.
“Buildings use resources, generate waste, and are costly to maintain and operate. We are pleased that Daimyo made the effort to build a sustainable building as it allows us to more easily operate the hotel sustainably,” explains Kristian Haaber, Brand & Development Manager at Core Hospitality. “The BREEAM certificate, in general, is a strong indication that Moxy Hotels is among the leading sustainable hotel choices in Tromsø. The Very Good level, specifically, is an incredible feat that highlights the tremendous sustainable considerations made when building the hotel.”
Daimyo’s sustainability values are shared with the operator of Moxy Tromsø, the third-party management company Core Hospitality. Recognizing the efforts of the owner, Core Hospitality is committed to further reducing the building’s environmental impact by operating on 100% renewable energy and optimizing building processes and operative procedures in accordance with the Green Key program.
