International hotel brand enters Esbjerg
August 19th, 2024
Heimstaden and Core Hospitality have signed a 15-year contract on the lease and operations of the hotel “A Place to” in Esbjerg, Denmark. The hotel will also expand from 117 guest rooms to 214 guest rooms and will change its name as it seeks to partner with an international brand.
Since the launch in November 2021, the three “A Place To” properties in Esbjerg have been a distinguished trademark of the Esbjerg skyline. The BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) designed hotel has become a well-known and in-demand hotel on the western seaside of Denmark. The impressive view of the North Sea and the modern interior design, combined with Plates, a very popular restaurant on the 17th floor, have created an enormous excitement about the hotel.
So much so that the owner, Heimstaden, now wants to expand the hotel capacity by converting 97 apartments to hotel rooms. At the same time, one of Denmark’s largest hotel operators, Core Hospitality, will take over the lease and operations of the hotel.
Co-CEO of Heimstaden, Helge Krogsbøl, is excited about the development: “It’s a big day for Heimstaden and for Esbjerg. We have always aimed to expand the hotel and attract a known hotel chain to the city to meet the demand. I would like to highlight our great cooperation with Esbjerg municipality to make this ambition come to life and I’m proud to hand over the operations to Core Hospitality, who will surely improve the hotel even further and contribute to Esbjerg positively.”
CEO of Core Hospitality, Peter Haaber, also looks forward to developing the hotel: “This is a big deal for us at Core Hospitality as we finally get a hotel in Esbjerg – the city has been on our wish list for a long time and to take over an existing hotel that fits one of our partners’ brands makes it an ideal entry into the market. The hotel is well managed and already has strong leadership through Helle Tingberg, who we look very much forward to working with to develop the hotel further.”
Core Hospitality will take over the operations of the hotel in the second half of 2024 and expects to reveal the international hotel chain that the hotel will rebrand to in September. The full conversion is expected to take place in the beginning of 2025.
