General Manager appointed at Moxy Bergen

October 6th, 2020

The hotel operator Core Hospitality has appointed Monica Selvik as General Manager of upcoming hotel Moxy Bergen. The international brand opens in the Norwegian city in six months.

Monica Selvik takes on the role as “Captain” (General Manager in Moxy speak) at Moxy Bergen, a 199-room hotel that opens in March 2021 on the Norwegian west coast. Monica has more than 30 years’ experience from the hotel industry in a plurality of positions from receptionist and revenue manager to hotel manager and sales director. Her experience is mainly from Bergen where she has worked for Nordic Choice Hotels, First Hotels, Thon Hotels and Magic Hotels.

Monica has a strong background with both operational and commercial experience. Having her lead the hotel, we will hit the ground running. The hotel’s international profile offers many benefits to travelers, but it is through Monica’s leadership and her future team’s performance that we make sure everyone has a great experience. We are very happy that we now have a colleague locally in Bergen so that we can really begin planning the opening of Moxy Bergen,” says Per Denker Sørensen, CEO of Core Hospitality.

Local presence, global brand

As of September 1st, Monica Selvik has become part of the Moxy Bergen hotel and, thus, the Core Hospitality management team. The hotel is operated by the Scandinavian hotel operator Core Hospitality and the brand is owned by the world’s largest hotel company Marriott International. This combination gives Monica local colleagues in Scandinavia as well as a large global network.

I have been overly excited about the Moxy opening in Bergen since I heard the news two years ago. And now there’s only a few months left before we open this exciting, fun, stylish and affordable hotel in Bergen. I really look forward to the opportunity to work for such a strong brand as Moxy and Marriott and to be a part of Core Hospitality’s successful expansion in the Nordics,” says Monica Selvik and continues to explain what to expect from Moxy Bergen. “Moxy by Marriott brings an international buzz to the expanding city and the area of Solheimsviken. At its location by the waterfront in the newest business area of Bergen, near Marineholmen and the city center, Moxy Bergen will stand out with its lively communal space for young-hearted locals and travelers. We look forward to welcoming fun-hunting guests and associates. In addition, all our stayover guests will be able to benefit from the world’s largest loyalty program in the hotel industry, Marriott Bonvoy.”

Unique hotel and concept

Moxy Hotels was developed for travelers that are looking for affordable accommodation without compromising on quality and style. Just like the existing Moxy Hotels in Oslo and Copenhagen, the brand appeals to the young and young-at-heart by offering large social areas, full of entertainment to stayover guests and local drop-ins. Moxy Bergen will offer a unique location in Solheimsviken with a view of Puddefjorden. This is the third Moxy Hotel to open in Scandinavia, but more are on the way; Core Hospitality has also confirmed an opening in Tromsø, Norway.
