Smári Thorsteinsson

Experienced Revenue Manager hired by Danish hotel operator

September 5th, 2019

The Danish hotel operator, Core Hospitality, has hired Smári Thorsteinsson as Revenue Manager, bringing him back to the hotel industry. The new profile will optimize the pricing and distribution of the organization’s hotels.

Smári Thorsteinsson is the new Revenue Manager at Core Hospitality who will optimize the pricing and distribution strategy of Moxy Hotels in Copenhagen, Best Western Plus near Copenhagen Airport, and Hotel Marina north of Copenhagen. The new competences are expected to strengthen the competitiveness of the hotels in a future that bodes a large increase in market capacity. Hotel rooms are perishable products, and the distribution strategy must be adjusted to the new market conditions so that the three hotels can maintain or increase its market share.

We are really happy to welcome Smári to the team and to add more competences to the organization, especially in such a strategically important function. Smári will work closely with some of the world’s largest hotel brands, but it is locally that we create results. We feel very comfortable having him lead us in the right direction when it comes to revenue and distribution,” says Per Denker Sørensen, CEO of Core Hospitality.

Professional selection

Smári brings academic professionalism and many years of experience from the hotel industry in which he has mainly focused on pricing and distribution. He has, among other things, been the Revenue & Distribution Manager of Scandic Hotels in Denmark for several years, and he has completed educations in Revenue Manager at both Cornell University and CPH Business Academy. Most recently, he has held a position as Head of Pricing at Sixt Rent a Car, but Smári is now returning to the hotel industry. Core Hospitality, while being a small team, gives Smári the opportunity to work with global colleagues and some of the industry’s most innovative technologies, due to the fact that the operator is a franchisee of some of the largest hotel brands in the world, e.g. Moxy Hotels and Best Western Plus.

I love the hotel industry, so it was time to return to it. I look very much forward to working with the brands that Core Hospitality operates and to working with the software that I get access to. Copenhagen’s hotel market is developing fast at the moment, but with the right tools to unlock small and big data, we can more easily price optimize and distribute our rooms without losing market share,” says Smári Thorsteinsson, Revenue Manager at Core Hospitality.
